Edited version. Immediately, after Augustine heard the voice of a child singing and instructing him "Pick up and read. Pick and read," God showed precisely what he ought to do with his lustful and miserable life. Yea, in God, all things are possible, thus, the Bible became ALIVE powerfully after he read and absorbed these verses in order to start anew.

Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.

But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Romans 13:13-14, Authorized (King James) Version (AKJV)

As God knows the heart of every man, and with those Scriptural verses, Augustine was awakened by them as they were directly related to his miserable life. Indeed, the response could be twofold, either to walk away as a deaf and dead man, or fall down to God with a broken spirit and a contrite heart. For such a brilliant mind like Augustine, he chose the latter, to strive for the narrow road in Christ. This narrow road is indeed a road less traveled as it is difficult. For example, to stop committing venial sins remain a constant struggle in our daily lives in order to fulfill the Commandment, "Be Perfect as your Father in Heaven is Perfect" thus saith Yahshua.

It is imperative to understand that God sent us persons to be with us for very specific reasons. Nothing is coincident in this world if we believe in the Providential Ordering of God. For example, Monica was the messenger of Good News and biological mother to Augustine. She was instrumental to fight a good faith in Christ, and just before she departed this world, Augustine agreed to be baptized and converted. Prior to this, likewise, through the oracles of God, God showed Bishop Ambrose of Milan to Augustine. In the preaching of Bishop Ambrose, the evil seeds in the mind of Augustine were visibly shaken despite being a brilliant and stubborn worldly mind. As Bishop Ambrose's words could penetrate the hearts of many using the Mind and the Tongue of Christ in his homilies, Augustine, who, as a lover of the world, for once, became wavering. In his head, the battle between Light and Darkness ensued violently. It was evident that the search and quest for the Truth became prominent in Augustine's life since his worldly beliefs and ideals were challenged indirectly by Ambrose the Bishop using the Mouth of Christ. Remember always, the foolishness of God is greater than the greatest wisdom of mankind.

Now, do you know why the preachers of the modern day are so worldly that they speak not of Salvation in Christ, but for their own gain, profit, lust and glory? Today, we can hardly find any preacher and priest like Ambrose, Chrysostom, Augustine, Thomas Aquinas, John of Damascus etc. Yea, it is a very sick world.

It is very interesting to observe that this famous instruction,"Pick up and read," was counterfeited as "divine command" by many false prophets after Augustine.

Of course, there are some theological controversies with Augustine, like just war etc. In fact the ancient Orthodox Catholic Christian is still divided on the sainthood of Augustine. The Roman Catholics and Oriental Orthodoxy (to some degree) regarded him a Saint, but only as Blessed one in the Eastern Orthodox Church. Seriously, sainthood of someone is very crucial as belief in false sainthood can drag many souls to perdition. Playing or fabricating sainthood(s) is no different from playing with Hellfire. The blind guides had fabricated many false saints aggressively in the last few decades, so watch out! To me, I stick to the few, Mother Mary and the Apostles, and few Apostolic/Church Fathers.

Many ask me, should we consider JPII a great saint? My answer is a flat "no." Society of St Pius the X calls him a bad Pope and Sedevacantists/ Catholics call him an antipope, so think critically, "Do we need a "saint" who teaches another gospel foreign to the Holy Trinity as passed down by the Apostles?" What is the repercussion to our soul in the end to pray to any "false saint" to intercede etc? By their fruit, we shalt know them thus said the Lord. Or, the blind guides leading the blind and both fall into the ditch so saith the Lord.

Also, Augustine was from Africa, thus he was not a white Caucasian as seen in this video. He was a black African originally from Thagaste, Africa. His first mistress went away to Numidia, Africa, vowing herself to God. Yes, the conversion of Augustine reminds us of Mary Magdalene in the Bible as both decided to live holy and pure lives free from corruption.
